Welcome to the Outdoors! YMCA Family Camp Nawakwa is 180 acres of pristine forest lands, wetlands, and lakes with abundant wildlife. The camp is nestled in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, which is home to the Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians. Situated on Big Crooked and Little Sugarbush Lakes, Nawakwa is surrounded by birch and pine forests and offers all the beauty and peacefulness that living in a city denies.
The wildlife and changing seasons speak with enchantment to guests. In the evening, the common loon replaces the traffic noise and sirens. You can hear red squirrels discussing the next day's agenda and if you're lucky, you can spot a bald eagle circling overhead. The crystal clear lakes, perfect for swimming, are also a fisherman's paradise complete with bass, walleye, northern pike, and musky. Families and friends gather around evening camp fires roasting marshmallows, and sharing the memories of each day's events. Come and stay because Camp Nawakwa is the place that will capture your heart and inspire your imagination!
Local Attractions Lac du Flambeau is host to the Ojibwe Museum and Cultural Center, Indian Bowl Pow-Wows, Waswagoninng Indian village, local fish hatchery and cranberry bogs.
Other attractions in Minocqua and Woodruff include the North Woods Wildlife Center, lumberjack show, water-ski show, horseback riding, miniature golf, and a variety of specialty shops.
Mission The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago anchors neighborhoods - from the heart of the central city to the farthest reaches of the suburbs. As a result, families come closer together, children learn and grow, young people lead, individuals become self-sufficient and all people are healthier in spirit, mind and body.
It is the goal of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago to provide services to people regardless of their ability to pay. Waiver or reduction of fees is available, subject to program capacity and demonstrated need, without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, or physical or mental handicap.
Programs Hiking, berry picking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, cross-country skiing, sledding, and ice skating are just a few of the exciting adventures at Camp Nawakwa. Colorama, Columbus Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, and Valentine's Day are all popular retreat times at Nawakwa.
Bring your school group, church retreat, staff retreat, or specialty club to camp and the Nawakwa staff can help plan and organize your events.
